Lenses and Curiosity

We all see the world through different lenses and frames. If we are lucky, we can sometimes step into someone else’s perspective and gain a glimmer of understanding about how that person sees the world. If we are truly lucky, we maintain a curiosity that encourages us to do so. We look closely. We pull back. We try a different angle. We change perspective. And we see where it takes us. To shine a spotlight on such habits of mind, the “Lenses and Curiosity” blog has now been reborn as a showcase for student work. Here, you will see some of the work that my K-12 writing students and adult English language learners have chosen to share. Take a glimpse into their worlds and join the conversation. How do you see the world?

Swimming to Rockaway

Swimming to Rockaway

By The Minecraft Breaker

This photo essay will take you to a vast ocean where you will get thrown around like a tennis ball in air filled with sticky, salty seawater that makes it a little hard to breathe. You will see water biting and tearing apart the sloping, mud-like sand, flooding the seagulls' vibrant city. You may also witness the shells, mussels, and crabs getting swallowed up by the vacuum waves. This is the Rockaway that I see.
